Dear Bo, Not much going on this last weekend in January...

Of course, there was our Friday night family date night; this time we went for sushi.  Then it was home for some play time in your Cozy Coupe car...

Daddy worked outside on the new shed on Saturday while we played inside.  You love opening and shutting anything and have found one of your toy stashes in the den...

On Sunday, you were a mess in church so you went to the nursery earlier than usual.  Ms. Willie said you were a good boy in class again!

We traveled so much in December and the first of January that it's been so nice to be home these last couple of weekends, but I'm getting antsy to get going again.  Lucky me, we'll be on the go the next 3 weekends!

Dear Bo, You're 14 months old...

Here's what you're up to:
  • You weigh 24 pounds 1.5 ounces; you didn't get measured this month.  You wear a mix of 12 month and 18 month clothes, size 3 shoes (size 12-18 month in Pedipeds which is about all you wear), and a size 4 diaper.
  • You have 4 teeth, and they are C-U-T-E, and I don't mind saying so.  I'll admit it.  I dreaded your front teeth coming in.  I loved your toothless baby grin!  But...I love the toothed baby grin just as well!  You have a big space between your two front teeth which I adore.
  • You take about 20 ounces of milk (4 sippy cups a day), and a couple of sippy cups of super-diluted apple juice.  You eat a TON of food.  For breakfast, you typically eat a package of "big people" oatmeal, or a nutrigrain bar and half a banana, or a scrambled egg and fruit, or whatever we're having on the weekends (pancakes, breakfast burrito, etc.).  For lunch, you typically eat leftovers from the night before, or lunchmeat or grilled chicken with mashed potatoes or a sweet potato or green beans, with a fruit.  For dinner, you generally just have what we're having.  For snacks, you love graham crackers, mini Nilla wafers, Ritz crackers, and cheerios.
  • Your schedule is still awesome.  You've been more consistent with your nap times this month.  You typically get up between 7:30-8am, have a cup of milk in my lap while we watch Cat in the Hat, eat breakfast and play until naptime at 10 or 10:30, get up at 12:30 or 1pm, have a cup of milk and lunch then play until naptime at 3:30 or 4pm, get up at 5:30 or 6pm and have a cup of milk and dinner, then play until bathtime at 7:45pm, then go to bed.  Love. Your. Schedule.
  • Your bedtime routine is to have a bath around 7:45pm, say prayers with Momma and Daddy, then one of us (we rotate) will rock you and read you books while you drink your milk.  We'll turn out the lights and sing 2-3 songs then put you in your crib.  For nap time, we rock and sing a couple of songs then put you in your crib.  You haven't fussed when we put you down in a long time.  When you go down for naps, you play and talk awhile before you fall asleep.
  • You had a weird spell the first week of January where you woke up screaming and crying after you'd been in bed a couple of hours.  There was no consoling you.  Oh, how it reminded me of the early days.  It made me thankful that we're past that season and reminded me how used to sleep we've gotten!  Thankfully, it didn't last long.
  • You had your second diaper rash this month.  No fun.  (but so grateful you've only had 2 in 14 months!)
  • You are a FAST crawler.  Anyone who sees you crawl says that immediately.  You took your first steps this month, but you do not want to walk.  You fuss everytime we make you do it.  Then all of a sudden yesterday, you decided walking would be your thing.  You're a sidewinder.  You sidestep to your destination with your hands out like a mummy.
  • You love to get on the couch, bounce up and down, bury your head in the couch and scream, and pick on Scout.  Every night you fuss for me to pick you up and put you on the couch so you can go crazy.

  • You like shaking your head back and forth (as if you're saying "no" with your body language) and will do it and giggle.  If we do it back to you, you get to laughing really hard.  We have no idea why you think it's so funny!  Another thing you think is funny is if we clear our throat.  You just laugh and laugh.  And coughing?  Same thing!
  • You're really into sitting on the floor and playing with books right now.  You also still love your laugh and learn house.  You like to "play catch" with balls (you throw left handed), play with your cozy coupe car, push cars/trucks around, and throw puzzle pieces.  You love the TV remote as well.
  • You're pretty verbal, but you don't say words we understand.  It's more just repetitive sounds.  You've gotten good with saying "Da-Da".  You can be yelling away, but when you go to say that word, you whisper it.  You'll occasionally say "Ma-Ma".  If I say "Ma-Ma", you usually whisper "Da-Da" though.  You'll generally try to repeat back to us what we're saying if we repeat it enough times (i.e. "Ma-Ma, "Da-Da", "Bye-Bye").
  • You like to be tickled and have a big giggle.  You have an easy smile, too.
  • You don't like being told "no" (who does?).  When we sternly tell you no or swat your hand, you get your feelings hurt and really wail (usually with tears).  You understand when we say "no" (unfortunately you don't always obey it though).
  • I know the only thing that stays the same about a baby is that you're always changing, but I am really enjoying this stage.  You are so much fun, and things are just so easy right now.  You eat well, sleep well, and are so happy and content.  I know we're still on the roller coaster, it's just that we're on the upswing right now, but I've got to say...I'm sure it enjoying it.
We love you!

Dear Bo, Weekend review (stock show...)

We had so much fun this weekend!  For our Friday night date night, we had sushi (you had fried rice for the first time and loved it!) then stopped by the Potter County Livestock Show.  You were way more interested in Daddy's hat than the animals.

On Saturday, you geared up in your jersey and played in your football tent while Daddy and I watched the Aggies play K State (again, Daddy's hat provided no shortage of entertainment).

I absolutely could not resist you in these red flannel pajamas (Sunday before church)!

And this blue and white striped one piece?  Unable to resist you in that either (after church on Sunday)!

Dear Bo, You finally took your first steps (and other "new" stuff)...

But you weren't that happy about it!  We have to really coax you to take steps, but you fuss the whole time.  You have great balance; I can't believe how steady you are.  But you prefer to just drop and crawl instead.  You are a FAST crawler.
Some other new stuff you've been doing lately...
Throwing the ball to us (with your left hand!)...
Playing peek-a-book in your chair and throwing yourself in it...

Man, I'll miss when you're too old to wear little outfits with cute sayings on the bottom...

Dear Reader, When you're not feeling good...

does anything beat being taken care of by your mom???

No.

Got knocked on my hiney by the crud, and Mom was here to take care of Bo and let The One and me have a date night.  Unfortunately, I got sidelined.  Fortunately for me though, she was here to...
  • make me soup
  • go to the store and get me Sprite, gatorade, meds,
  • bring me a magazine to look at
  • insist I stay in bed all day
  • organize my bed area so everything was within reach
Man, oh, man, did I not appreciate this woman enough when I lived at home!  Thanks, Mom!

Dear Bo, January weekend review (an Aggie game with Claire)...

After being on the road last weekend, we enjoyed a weekend at home!

Friday night was family date night with dinner out (we're switching it up and enjoying Mexican food lately) and a trip to the grocery store.

Then Saturday we had friends over for the Aggie basketball game against Missouri (great game!).  The precious Claire came over and strutted her stuff.  She's a walking and a talking (both of which you aren't doing), but you focused on your strengths and charmed her anyway (by showing her how great you are with a sippy cup and what a good "big people food" eater you are).  You showed her some other mad skills as well...
You both looked at some books (so studious!)...
It almost looks like you're ignoring her here, but you were being a good listener.

Bo: "I know it looks like I have a lot of cool toys in here, but this blue basket is really where it's at."
Claire: "Love it.  Watch me stick my hand in it."
Claire: "Oh, look.  This blue ring matches it."  (so smart)
Bo: "You're gonna think this is funny.  Watch me put this basket on my head."

Claire:  "Let me help you."

Claire:  "Does it hurt if I push down on it?"
Claire:  "Are you okay under there?"
Claire giggling into her hand:  "Oh, this is hilarious."

You and Claire played hard so you took a good, long nap when she left.  Then it was time for a wagon ride!

You were so busy trying to stand up in your wagon that you ended up on Daddy's shoulders...
